Supported by the saying ‘Third time’s a charm’ Trivial Muffins Theatre Association is proud to invite you to its third production since its foundation in 2014. Most delightedly we present to you ‘A Man for All Seasons’, a rich and exciting piece about the years of Sir Thomas More as Lord
Chancellor of King Henry VIII. Rooted in historical facts, Robert Bolt – who has been awarded several Oscars for his writings for movies such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Doctor Zhivago’ – succeeds in seamlessly bringing us back to the 1500s, where in times of religious riots one man stands firm. Thomas More is the protagonist of the play, a lovable respected though somewhat stubborn man who simply can’t share why he wouldn’t acknowledge the divorce of the Tudor King of England and his wife Queen Catherine. A position not appreciated by Henry VIII, who’d rather see More pay for it. He sends out his mastery accomplice Thomas Cromwell to make sure justice will prevail.
About Thomas More
Thomas More hardly needs an introduction. Not only do several Flemish educational institutions in this country carry his name, for the last couple of months he’s put in the spotlight in university town Leuven, where 500 years ago he wrote his best known literary work. Although Utopia has been written centuries ago, the themes that dominate the book are universal and above all still relevant. Whether it’s about making trade agreements or the treatment of convicts: Thomas More thought about it, as a lawyer, as a believer, as a humanist. Now the Utopiafestival lies in the past, Trivial Muffins Theatre Association and concert band ‘Koninklijke Harmonie Volharding’ will shine light on the other sides of the man: the side of the lovable father, the skillful Lord Chancellor, the loyal subject, the endearing friend. We get to know him as he truly was and as he was called by his close friend Erasmus, as a man ‘omnium horarum’, a man of all hours – or also called ‘A Man for All Seasons’.
On the concert band ‘Volharding’
For this production Trivial Muffins is most honored to be partnered with the concert band ‘Koninklijke Harmonie Volharding Kessel-Lo’. This concert band was founded back in 1925 and falls under the experienced supervision of conductor Benny Laureyns. The concert band will enrich the play with several beautiful, warm pieces of music that will serve as binding tissue between the acts as well as an opening to the tensive evolutions in the piece. At one time triumphantly, then again sensitive and fragile the music succeeds to enlighten the dramatic elements.
